CONCEPTS

1.      The concept of technology.

Technology is the creation and application of any means used to enhance quality of life or solve any problem. It involves knowledge, tools, financial management, processes and organizations which combine their assets and know-how to achieve an objective that will have an impact over a specific community. 

2.      ICTs in education.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are certainly relevant in this changing world that demands competitiveness in their application. Teachers around the world face a big challenge in becoming tech savvy themselves for the fact of acquiring technology does not solve the issue itself. The mindset of a true educator must always be willing to face challenges and changes informing him or herself in order to be able to transfer pertinent knowledge; thus,  It is imperative that we,  teachers,  understand the how, when and where to apply these tools. In other words, we, teachers, ought to understand the use, pertinence, and purpose of ICTs in our curricular plans. If we teachers are not willing to use and assign tasks that involve ICTs, future generations will be doomed to lack of progress and prosperity.  

3.      The use of technology in English teaching and learning.

Problem solving and students centered curriculum must be the basis of education. Being technology the creation and application of any means used to enhance quality of life or solve any problem, education and technology go hand –in-hand and cannot be separated. Nonetheless, technological tools must never replace the teacher and his or her role as facilitator or guide in the learning process.  On the other hand, regarding English teaching in technology: Learning English for the purpose of communication is especially urgent today.  English, as the language of today and tomorrow, plays an important role in allowing students to access knowledge, for the vast majority of information on the web can be encountered in English; thus English language teaching has expanded its universe allowing students to go beyond language learning. For years, technology and language learning have made a good match as it offers the opportunity and makes more accessible to people in general the access to understanding English speaking cultures through multimedia that in the end, may be used to motivate discussion, listening, writing composition, and even reading comprehension.

4.      The advantages of information technology in teaching English

The wonders of Information Technology in English Teaching are certainly irrefutable for in today’s society ICTs play an important role and make part of our context. By using ICTs intrinsic motivation of students can certainly be ignited; on the other hand, applying these tools could also allow time saving, diminish work load for the teacher and assure language learning trough the multiple available teaching- learning options involving technology.

      The impact of using technology

The impact of using technology can be nothing but positive. As we are immerse in a world in which technology plays a relevant if not a central role, we ought to align technological tools with language learning. Numerous studies show that motivation can be ignited through the implementation of various technological options with the purpose of improving speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
